As a pediatric speech therapist, I have learned that baby signs are very useful in getting babies to communicate in an appropriate and meaningful way at an early age. Using simple signs reduces stress, frustration and whining on their part, and helps you tune into what your baby needs and reduces the the guesswork. Using signs at meal time is highly effective, since babies are motivated by food. You will see that the signs actually facilitate language, and before long, they are saying the word as they sign!
