Help Prevent Your Child from Adding to the Bully Problem

Recently our 7-year-old told us she had gotten in trouble for calling a friend "fat." Instead of "telling" her how hurtful it was, I "asked" about her friend's reaction. She told me her friend cried. I asked her if she knew why and she said her friend probably felt sad. I asked how she would feel if someone called her a name. To that, she hung her head and began to cry. Realizing how she made her friend feel had a bigger impact on her than anything I could have said. Prevent your kids from adding to the bully problem by asking about their feelings and to consider the feelings of others.
