Parenting Your Parents Isn't Easy: Share the Burden & Love

It’s hard to watch your parents age. It’s even harder to start needing to parent your parents. Your role as “the child” reverses when your parents age and require medical care or have safety restrictions. Delegating roles among siblings decreases the burden on one person. Decide who will manage medical issues and finances. Keeping your parents involved in the decision-making process is important if they’re capable. No one wants to take away a parent's car keys or admit them to a nursing facility, but sometimes there are no other options when safety is a concern. Share the role if possible.
