Meditation for Mental Health: Learn the Basics & Start Today
Meditation is a proven mental (and physical) health booster, promoting greater coping, clarity, peace of mind and lower stress. The goal of meditation is to still the thinking mind and get in touch with the deeper essence of who you are. If you’ve never tried it, start with breathing meditation. Focus on the breath as you inhale deeply for 5 counts, then exhale for 5. Your mind will speak up and want to be heard, but your goal is to simply notice the thoughts and go back to the breath (see video). Practice each day for 5-10 minutes and soon enough it will feel easier (and so will life)!
