Use Your Smartphone to Help Aid Disaster Victims by Text
The killer tornado that tore through Oklahoma left many of us feeling brokenhearted. So much devastation; so many lives lost. The victims and their families, and all those suffering, are in our prayers as we send love across the miles. But we can do more. Technology makes it easy for us to send hope - and money - to those in need. In fact, you can make a donation to the Red Cross - which provides food, shelter and emotional support to those affected by disasters like this - by text. On your phone, simply text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation that appears on your phone bill. God bless!

So excited to share that we're starting a new feature: 30Second Mom of the Week! Designed to shine a spotlight on the amazing contributors we have at 30Second Mom, I'm thrilled to announce that this week it's Dr. Christina Hibbert! Dr. Christi is a clinical psychologist specializing in Postpartum Mental Health who provides our community with a wealth of information/support on emotional health, parenting and personal development. Teach Kids that the Best Gifts are Those from the Heart
Each holiday, my kids make drawings, paintings and posters to commemorate the occasion. They give them to me as their gift, because they know that's what I really want. As they earn money from babysitting, etc., they sometimes buy gifts, but the ones I enjoy most are those that come from their hands, from their hearts. I keep all these special mementos and even frame some. It's fun to look at how their skills/interests change over the years. These become part of their childhood tapestry and my motherhood memories. For the cost of some time, you have a precious gift from the heart!

Happy Mother's Day to the 30Second Mom Community!
"Mother's love grows by giving." - Charles Lamb. I never knew how much love I was capable of until I became a mother. The more love you give, the more you get back, and the more you have to give. My wish for you this Mother's Day is for you to feel you always have enough love to give, and that the love you receive turns into more love to give. When your battery runs low, it's OK to unplug and recharge. Your kids depend on you to have that full tank of love, so make sure you allow yourself time to fill up your tank again. Today, make YOU a priority. Enjoy the love, and make more of it!

The Greatest Mother's Day Gift Ever: My Son, C.J.
My favorite Mother’s Day (so far) was my first one, when my son, C.J., was only 3 days old. We'd just been discharged from the hospital and were settling in at home. Surrounded by family, I was able to embrace - though not fully comprehend - the fact that I was a mother with a precious newborn baby in my arms. That day was incredibly special, and he'll always be my best Mother's Day gift ever! Now that I have three teens (where does the time go?!), I treasure every Mother’s Day with my kids. The way I look at it, every day I get to be with them is Mother's Day. Happy Birthday, C.J.!

Don't Just Wait: Use the Time to Breathe & Meditate
Moms are always on the go. That often means we hurry up, only to have to wait a while. We wait in the carpool lane to pick up kids from school. We wait for kids to get done with practice. We wait in the grocery store checkout. And on and on. While this makes for great times to use your 30Second Mom app to read quick tips ;-) it's also great to stop everything and meditate. When I need a mental health break, I close my eyes and shut everything out. Even if it's just a few moments, it helps to stop the madness and feel myself breathe slowly. When I open my eyes, I'm centered and ready to roll!

Passing Down Your Passion: Sharing Interests with Your Kids
My twin daughters are both artistic. I love to watch them draw and paint; it brings back memories of my passion for art. A while ago, I gave them my old tackle boxes filled with supplies I used in my college art classes (my parents had saved them for me). I was delighted to find a painting (pictured here) my daughter Jules made using those supplies. We all find it special that we share creative interests, and it's given us another way to connect and strengthen our bond. I have friends who similarly share their interests (fitness, baking, etc) to connect with their kids. I hope you do, too!

Happy Easter and Passover! A Message of Hope & Love
Wishing the 30Second Mom community a very happy Easter, or a very happy Passover! On holidays, I feel especially grateful for all the blessings in life. Most especially, I am grateful for my three beautiful and talented children, which is why I'm sharing this drawing done by my daughter, Cassie. She captured so much raw, sad emotion in her depiction of Good Friday. But my favorite part is that she captured the shining light of hope that also shone through on that day. This picture reminds me that no matter how dark things may seem, we always have hope. Sending you hope and love this holiday!

After Steubenville: Let's Raise Our Boys to Respect Girls
The Steubenville teen rape case stunned our nation and has many of us up in arms. We're very disturbed by the way those boys treated that girl. I watched 20/20's program about it with my teen son, and I was so proud of him throughout our discussion. Having been raised to respect and protect his sisters and other women, I know he would have helped the girl and tried to stop the boys. We need to clearly communicate to boys and girls what's appropriate and what's not. Kids need to be aware there are real-life consequences to their behavior. We need to instill in our kids empathy and compassion!
